The Megalodon CCR is a technologically advanced CCR and the favorite product of many divers. The Innerspace Systems Corporation (ISC) has designed and manufactured this product to be an electronics-driven closed-circuit constant rebreather (eCCR), and it is remarkable with extremely durable qualities. This is no surprise, as ISC has been recognized for its consistency in manufacturing high-quality units.

Features

This system is made with the utmost consideration of the critical and unpleasent situations that can occur underwater. It has some incredible features that explain why it is one of the best eCCRs on the market. Take a look at just a few of these excellent qualities:

  • There are various options available when it comes to the MegalodonRebreather, whether you want choices in supply cylinders or buoyancy control systems
  • It contains a water trap, and the scrubber canister design provides simple and quick replacement of the CO2 absorbent. It also allows easy access to the oxygen sensors (there are three) and the battery housings
  • Another feature of this rebreather is a low-maintenance mouthpiece which is called DSV or Dive Surface Valve. It is compact and has no o-rings that would wear or need replaced
  • The exhalation counterlung (including an OPV) provides an easy way to remove trapped water even if it’s underwater
  • An ADV or Auto Diluent Valve is included in the DSV to make one-handed operation for opening and closing easy and comfortable. The advantage of ADV is that it adds diluents automatically into the breathing loop
  • To provide adjustable position and effective breathing, included is dual over-the-shoulder counterlungs
  • Each counterlung is fitted with a swivel valve and contains a water trap; this valve allows BC-type fast-release hose fittings

Pros

The Megalodon Rebreather has many advantages compared to other rebreathers available on the market. The remarkable merits of this product are:

  • It is light weight and easy to carry
  • Completely CE certified
  • Very low Work of Breathing (WOB)
  • 27kg for the Inspiration unit and 23kg for the Evolution (both light units)
  • Until the final stop ceiling is reached, there are SGFs or Selectable Gradient Factors for the computer with a floating deco point
  • To monitor the scrubber duration andusage, a temperature stick isavailable in the device
  • Flexible handsets for one-handed operation
  • Reliable against wearing
  • A pre-packed canister for gas
  • A high degree of flexibility in modular design
  • Very strongly built
  • Safe and simple design
  • Availability of spares to have extra essential parts
  • A very efficient water trap
  • Longevity of battery life
  • A large variety of cylinder options for gas supply so that divers can choose the most comfortable one for them
  • Cave diving is more comfortable with this rebreather

Cons

  • Though the scrubber can give a 3-hour duration dive, it’s not a very large scrubber at 2.5kg (in 4 degree C water with the diver’s breathing rate at 20 liters per minute)
  • Over-the-shoulder counterlungs provide optimum comfort, but somestill see this as a disadvantage
  • Has trouble calibrating with anything under 95% pure oxygen
  • Different sized cylinders are available, but the supplied ones are difficult to use, giving divers a limited choice to begin with
  • Original Dive Rite BOV is no longer available on the market
  • It is not as gas-efficient as CCR
  • The size of this rebreather can be cumbersome to divers
  • It is not efficient for short dives because it has a 10-hour scrubber
  • Heads Up Display (HUD) can be difficult for divers to acclimate yourself to
  • No shut-off for Automatic Diluent Valve (ADV) is included
  • Filling the scrubbercan be considerably messy
